Hi everyone,
Thanks again for an interesting show and for being the first collaboration between two courses who are very different.
The following clip is also an interesting example for how music and performance work together.

title idea: 0.01 *C
(the * would be a degree symbol)
reasoning: Triple point
The temperature and pressure at which solid, liquid, and gaseous water coexist in equilibrium is called the triple point of water. This point is used to define the units of temperature (the kelvin, the SI unit of thermodynamic temperature and, indirectly, the degree Celsius and even the degree Fahrenheit). As a consequence, water’s triple point temperature is a prescribed value rather than a measured quantity. The triple point is at a temperature of 273.16 K (0.01 °C) by convention, and at a pressure of 611.73 Pa. This pressure is quite low, about 1/166 of the normal sea level barometric pressure of 101,325 Pa. The atmospheric surface pressure on planet Mars is remarkably close to the triple point pressure, and the zero-elevation or “sea level” of Mars is defined by the height at which the atmospheric pressure corresponds to the triple point of water.
Like the idea that at that temperature water has the POTENTIAL to be in any state.
Tesco online have gym balls for quite a bit cheaper – they have grey (silver?) ones for £3.20 (That’s for a 75cm ball which I think is the larger one) and then have bright blue ones for £2.92 (which are slightly smaller at 65cm).
Even if these ones aren’t good enough quality to use for the actual show they might be good to have to play around with – esp. if we want to play around with slitting them to get water out….
Hey guys,
Been pricing the gym balls and the are well expensive we are looking at 80 for 6 and hat is cheap. Was thinking that we could look at alternative that can be painted?
Leather jackets, sunglasses and much more..! Somehow works with heavy metal music! How doe this fit or not with our music?! I find it just funny!
This is the movie Ben and I where talking about.
Steph says this is what we should be doing with the silver balls….

Here are some of the process pics we promised – a lot of these images might not make it to the final show but it gives an idea of the feel of the material we are working with…

While at home in Edinburgh this weekend I stumbled (literally) across this tent that my nephews have…. It’s from Ikea and it is an igloo made of plastic. I thought with all the stuff we have been talking about – attempting to create “natural” things out of industrial materials – that this was kind of interesting…. I’m not sure what purpose they could serve but I kind of enjoy them…!

Hey guys just to let you see that the idea of the sculpture kinda came from this image, i see it more as an installation with objects and reminants of the performance so we re protecting and guarding it perhaps. But initially i thought it would be good to share my starting point.

Hello chaps,
First I would like to state that the work of Ruth is very pleasant and it would be very lovely to be photographed by her. Furthermore I have another statement: I have just purchased 100 8″ blue glow sticks which should have arrived by Wednesday. So, if you are interested in using them help yourselves.
I really like them… (especially the one of the old ladies on the park bench Aly.. it resonated with me for some reason! lol!) Are you sure there is no way we can persuade her to come to Loch Katrine and do some group shots for us? x
Here is Ruth’s flickr where you can see all her photos leave comment and let me know what you think?
What is the performance world to the real world?
Who are we within this performance world?
What is our relationship to one another?
What is the audience within this performance world?
What is our relationship to the audience?
What does this performance world smell like?
What textures does it have – can the audience touch these? How?
Are we trying to tell some kind of story or are we just trying to provide an experience of ‘being’ in this world?
Also Im thinking this is possibly more relevant to the Guard Room/ Preparation to battle etc.
Videos for reference – Gregorian style singing/ chant.
This is a group called Anuna. I am interested in the Gaelic style of voice and it mystic quality. Please see videos:
Question- How can we create an atmosphere?
How can we all come together as musicians?
Who could teach us this style?
Can we make up our own language using same voice quality?
All the nice bits of the animal, without the annoyance of an actual animal:
I did a bit of ebaying for taxidermied animals but, understandably for an item with so much prestige attached to it, they seem to have a hefty price tag. Gorge your eyes on these anyway:
is this the answer?
Hi Everyone
Don’t know if anyone plans to be around edinburgh at new year. But if you are i am assistant producer on a big outdoor event taking place on the royal on the 1st Jan at 7pm-9.30pm. It is 13 new works all commissioned specially for this event. It should be a really good night and something a bit different for the new year.
Happy New Year.
Alyxx
Hope everyone had a good x-mas.
My uncle has a van which I recon could transport the tank when we need to. Just letting you know. xx
hi all! just htought i would wish everyone a very happy xmas, and just let you’s know i have been reading the blog… im still waddling thru working out how to contribute! lol. se eyou all in the new year xx
I just realised I never actually added the link – http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=7eT-buIKUpY
It looks amazing when you blow on it! I want to try this out.
I was looking at some stuff on youtube with steel wool and batteries like Ben was talking about – there might be more cooler links to follow but this one (ignore the weird instructions that bookend it…!) is really cool example of how we could also maybe do bits where there is steel wool dotted all over the place and the space can be in darkness and we can go and just touch it with batteries and blow which will give the sound of breath followed by little bursts of fire. It seems pretty safe because it stays contained in the steel wool. Just a thought.
I think we only have one day in the chandler, that being the Friday. I also don’t know how viable it is to work that hard the week before, especially because we will be seeing shows every night. Also, I think we should be ready as if our show was the first to go up. Lastly, a more personal issue is that my Mom and Step-dad will be in town, so I would appreciate some time with them.
Do you mean that would mean we wouldN’T have placement on the Monday Tuesday? To be honest it might not be possible – firstly cause people will have commitments those days for placement stuff, but that’s probably something we could get out of, but more because there will be other shows on in the Chandler before ours??? Normally it’s shows like Monday, Tuesday, then Fri, Sat so we wouldn’t get into the Chandler until the Wed anyways? x
How do people feel to committing to having a production week in the final week? This would mean that we would have placement on the monday and tuesday? It may good to try and get everyone there for that whole week and also scottish musicians to try and get those days devoted to this project? I think it would be good to have a proper production week.

it is open… it is about 3 feet deep/tall, 6 foot long, 3 feet wide. it is all glass and can hold water. we would only have to pay for/be responsible for transportation of it. and also figuring out a way to fill the tank and pump the water back out.
Josh – Aly mentioned you might be able to get a tank from Cryptic, what is it like? open or enclosed or possible for both? x
Also really think that we could create some interesting costume ideas with the elizibeathan style ruffs and collars check out this site.

The original peep show. Perhaps we could look at this style when thinking about the documentation.
theme from Rob Roy
here is a song that i like. am interested in the use of english and foreign language, was thinking could be nice to have some gaelic translation of the poem and the english side by side, in this kind of dream like quality.
“Highest of all, where white peaks glanced,
Where glistening streamers waved and danced,
The wanderer’s eye could barely view
The summer heaven’s delicious blue;
So wondrous wild, the whole might seem
The scenery of a fairy dream.”
“Harp of the North! that mouldering long hast hung
On the witch-elm that shades Saint Fillan’s spring
And down the fitful breeze thy numbers flung,
Till envious ivy did around thee cling,
Muffling with verdant ringlet every string,–
O Minstrel Harp, still must thine accents sleep?
Mid rustling leaves and fountains murmuring,
Still must thy sweeter sounds their silence keep,
Nor bid a warrior smile, nor teach a maid to weep?
Not thus, in ancient days of Caledon,
Was thy voice mute amid the festal crowd,
When lay of hopeless love, or glory won,
Aroused the fearful or subdued the proud.
At each according pause was heard aloud
Thine ardent symphony sublime and high!
Fair dames and crested chiefs attention bowed;
For still the burden of thy minstrelsy
Was Knighthood’s dauntless deed, and Beauty’s matchless eye.
O, wake once more! how rude soe’er the hand
That ventures o’er thy magic maze to stray;
O, wake once more! though scarce my skill command
Some feeble echoing of thine earlier lay:
Though harsh and faint, and soon to die away,
And all unworthy of thy nobler strain,
Yet if one heart throb higher at its sway,
The wizard note has not been touched in vain.
Then silent be no more! Enchantress, wake again!”

‘work is part of an ecology of ideas, aesthetics and practices which foregrounds the location of performance, the physical body of the performer, and relationships with audience and constituency.’ – brith gof
This was a performance group suggested to me in my tutorial by Robert. Thought it would be interesting to share they look really interesting their work seems a bit dated but the ideas of what they create are really interesting and useful for us i think. The film at this link is really interesting as they have gone on a similar process with the poem Godowin as we have the opportunity to do with Lady in the Lake. It is definitely worth a wee once over.

This looks pretty cool.
The funding has been pulled from the Lady in the Lake fountain celebration for the time being. WHICH MEANS we are not restricted to the text in any way. However i think it is really good to keep it because it is a good starting point from which we can go anywhere we want. But it was to let you all know.
Also plans to make a piece of video art to tour with the music have been put to the DFTV department by Barnaby, so this really will be a multi-cross collab! The video could even be projected on the fountain at a later date who knows!?!
Sir Walter Scott was the one who organised King George IV’s visit to Scotland, not too long after he wrote Lady of the Lake.

Pageantry could be an interesting topic to explore!
Hey everyone…
We spoke the other night about sharing stuff on that we thought could be useful so here we go…
The first link is a show by a company which have some really interesting concepts and it for me was where i began thinking about our show and how what we could do. Take a look it is very well down and i would be talking about doing this show but i really am inspired by their concepts of what theatre should be and where it should be heading. I found it exciting and really want to share it.

This next link is really just about something which i thought we could use within the performance. It is a cube projecting system i think it is something to be considered and i think we could use it in the show with some gorgeous visuals.

Just to let people know:
There is a show on this Thursday 6th 7.30pm, at the CCA ‘Songs of Home Songs of Hope’, an evening of ‘songs, music and poetry’. This is a relaxed performance of elements of a performance that was performed in June of this year. I thought this could be interesting as this is a dance theatre performance that requires musicians to be on stage live with the performers at the same time.Oh and also because I will be in it! I should also add that I have only had 2 rehearsals so it is likely that I will get something wrong so that could always be entertaining!
Welcome to the (new) CPP Trad Collaboration Blog. Let’s start sharing ideas, art, anything that catches your attention in life that you think can inform the project.
